Our Story

Fjölheim takes its name from Icelandic.

The prefix fjöl- refers to many, much, or abundance, while heim means home or dwelling. Together, Fjölheim can be read as many homes or as a home of abundance — abundance understood not as excess, but as richness in material, time, and lived experience.

The name reflects the studio’s approach to design. Objects are not refined into anonymity. Screws, joints, and structural elements remain visible. Variations in the clay, wood are preserved. These details are not treated as flaws, but as evidence of process and use.

Fjölheim is informed equally by people and nature. Neither is perfect. Wood carries memory through grain, tension, and wear. People do the same. The work exists in this shared condition — restrained yet raw, deliberate yet open to chance.

There is a quiet stoicism in the practice. Some outcomes cannot be controlled. They are accepted rather than corrected. This acceptance becomes part of the object.

The 7-Minute Project — Bedouin Village

Bedouin Village was designed by Fjölheim in 2025 and marks the studio’s first project. Each piece is shaped in seven minutes. The form is resolved in a single, uninterrupted gesture, without revision. The time constraint is intentional. It limits overworking and allows material and hand to define the result.

Designed and produced in Berlin, the project stands in contrast to mass production. It explores how handmade objects, made locally and in limited quantities, can exist with clarity and relevance in a landscape defined by repetition.

Every piece is unique.

Looking Forward

From 2026, Fjölheim will expand into new projects, primarily focused on wood — furniture, lighting, and interior objects. The studio will continue to work locally, using responsibly sourced materials and small-scale production methods. The aim is not to compete through volume, but through presence, care, and longevity.

Fjölheim proposes a quieter idea of abundance. One built from attention rather than excess, and from objects meant to remain.
